You never get a second chance to make a first impression. – Will Rogers

For many people, preparing for a headshot is slightly overwhelming. There are lots of different elements to keep in mind when getting ready for the session.

Why do you need a headshot? How do you want to be seen?

There’s a lot more to having your photo taken than just turning up at the studio and smiling at the camera. So it’s worthwhile spending the time to prepare yourself properly.

Clothing: Rule number one is, to feel good in what you are wearing, because it always will show in the photograph.

Certain outfits make your appearance more natural and authentic, some will give you more character. If you are more of a business person, more discreet colors or unicolor clothes would be the way to go. If you would like to wear a patterned shirt or blouse, keep it simple.

In the end you would like the headshot to be about you and not just your clothes, although they should sympathize with your personality, flatter your eye color and skin type.

Hair: Quite small changes in hairstyle can change facial structure and/or mood in a photograph.

Choose a hairstyle a couple days in advance as fresh haircuts may not lay down correctly and could cause you to mess with it during the session.

Don’t go super extravagant with your hair, unless this is your natural way of styling. Your headshot should resemble you. So find a day to day hairstyle which makes you feel good about yourself.

Make Up: One tip for women; start quite light and natural, especially when wearing darker, more accentuated clothes. You can always enhance your make up as the session goes on and your clothes change.

For men; if you have to wear make up, please remember, less is definitely more.

We are looking forward to a fantastic headshot session with you and always keep in mind:

First impressions are, how people who don’t really know you, will perceive you, perhaps indefinitely if you don’t get another chance to proof them wrong.
